The Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource department and the administration of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, benefits, compensation, compliance, organizational development, and employment.

HR Generalist develops and maintains lasting professional relationships with vendors, state agency representatives and employees to encourage and support communication, effective, efficient, and timely processing of registrations, and reporting. They build and maintain ongoing collaborative working relationships with HR team, coworkers, and management to achieve the goals for the department and continued success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up to date knowledge regarding employment laws and complies with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Works directly with the Chief Human Resources Officer in regard to employee relations to include but not limited to personal improvement plans, exit interviews, employee relations counseling, etc.
  • Assists in the administration of human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel
  • Communicates with employees or applicants regarding HR policies and procedures. Assists employees and supervisors with HR related questions, interpreting and explaining HR policies, and resolving employee relation issues.
  • Assists with obtaining and renewing all required professional licenses for employees in accordance with state licensing regulations and employee’s job requirements. Responsible for the bi-annual SCC filing.
  • Assists with tracking Professional licenses and continuing education, driver’s licenses, and performs annual MVR checks
  • Conducts ongoing, internal spot checks and annual audits (I9s, employee files, licenses)
  • Assist with Leave of Absence, reasonable accommodations requests, return to work process; and protects the interests of employees and the company in accordance with internal policies and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Handles worker’s compensation claims, generates reports as needed and processes annual filing
  • Handles unemployment claim verification
  • Utilizes HRIS and other tracking systems to maintain appropriate up to date data on employee information and statistics, and generate reports as needed.
  • Updates Employee’s handbook on an annual basis and drafts new policies, as needed, to ensure individual responsibility of employees and continued compliance.
  • Responsible for the AAP/EEO-1, Vets 4212 annual reporting
  • Supports HR management with OFCCP compliance audits (data gathering, data analysis, research and material prep as directed)
  • Ensures and manages document retention. Provides support to compliance with company standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development or equivalent or Three to five plus years of experience in Human Resources positions.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR or SHRM-CP) certification preferred, not required.
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventive labor relations, preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of generally accepted principles and practices, as well as laws and regulations related to human resources, compliance, and benefits.
  • Experience with HRIS, database management and record keeping, UltiPro experiences a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft products, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must pass the Drug Test, the Background Check, and any pre-employment tests as applicable
  • Strong critical thinking skills: able to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective time management capability, ability to effectively develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize accomplish those goals
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees and Managers as well as state and local officials
  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet state licensing requirements for security
  • Effective oral and written communication.
